Wonderwalls Festival Mural Installation

Port Adelaide, South Australia | 2020

Commissioned as part of the renowned Wonderwalls Festival, this mural transforms a heritage brick façade in Port Adelaide into a vivid celebration of geometry, colour, and compositional play.

Rooted in Bauhaus principles, the artwork channels ideas of elegant simplicity and the expressive power of form. A bold arrangement of interlocking abstract shapes, arches, curves, and angular planes unfolds across the length of the wall. The composition balances primary colours with earth tones and pastels, creating both tension and harmony, movement and stillness.

Each form holds its own visual weight yet contributes to the overall rhythm. The mural cleverly works with the architecture, embracing the barred windows, aligning with ledges, and wrapping around corners and allowing the building’s character to become part of the artwork itself.

Executed with crisp edges and a carefully restrained palette, the mural is a contemporary homage to Bauhaus-era modernism, reimagined through a distinctly urban Australian lens. It speaks to structure and abstraction, while leaving space for personal interpretation - a nod to the balance between order and freedom that defines both art and city life.

This work not only adds vibrancy to the laneway but also positions the site as a beacon of cultural expression in Port Adelaide’s ongoing creative revival.
