First Drop Wines Dancing Abstraction
Nuriootpa, SA | 2020
Tucked inside the eclectic and vibrant space of First Drop Wines, this bold abstract mural brings a kinetic energy to the winery’s interior, transforming the wall into a living composition of movement, rhythm, and form.
The artwork is composed of overlapping geometric shapes - arcs, diagonals, and sharp intersecting lines - that collectively suggest dancing figures in motion. The abstraction invites viewers to sense, rather than see, human form. Subtle visual cues hint at limbs mid-step, torsos in rotation, and bodies caught in a moment of expressive gesture.
The palette is dynamic and earthy yet bright: deep blues, muted peaches, vibrant reds, ochres, and splashes of acidic green animate the space. These tones echo the energy of the venue and reflect the colour of surrounding Barossa landscapes, barrels, wine, and soil. Despite the angularity of the composition, the mural retains an organic feel - thanks to the interplay between curved lines and colour-blocked movement across the surface.
Installed in a social and intimate interior corner, the mural acts as both a backdrop and a conversation starter. Its fragmented yet fluid composition captures the spirit of First Drop Wines - a place that champions bold ideas, uninhibited expression, and a playful, unconventional approach to the wine experience.
This piece not only elevates the architectural space, it dances within it, imbuing the room with a sense of celebration, improvisation, and freedom.
