Old Red Brick Co Mural

Beverly, South Australia | 2018

This large-scale mural in Beverley was created for Old Red Brick Co - a demolition company known for reclaiming the old to build the new. Responding directly to their ethos, I incorporated recycled metal fragments salvaged from demolition sites, embedding the material history into the artwork itself. these sculptural elements were hand-cut and mounted onto the wall, creating a layered, three-dimensional effect that disrupts the flat surface and catches shifting light.

The mural is a vivid exercise in geometric abstraction where angular forms collide and interlock in a rhythm reminiscent of urban graffiti. This is intentional and paying homage to street culture and its expressive language. While rooted in abstraction, the aesthetic energy of graffiti gives the work a sense of movement and urban edge.

Fluorescent paints, traditionally used in high-visibility PPE, were applied throughout the composition to reference the construction industry and the high-vis gear worn by demolition and building crew. These colours, combined with exposed brickwork and a bold palette, create a mural that is both grounded in place and charged with vitality.

By blending industrial materials, street art sensibilities, and visual cues from the construction world, this mural becomes more than a surface treatment, and rather a layered narrative about transformation, resilience, and creative reuse.
