23rd Street Distillery Bar Mural
Melbourne Street, Adelaide | 2018
For the flagship 23rd Street Distillery Bar on Melbourne Street, I was commissioned to create a mural that would embody the bold identity of the brand while enhancing the ambience of the space. Working closely with Bickford’s and 23rd Street Distillery, the goal was to craft an environment that felt moody, sophisticated, and inviting and act as a visual extension of the high quality spirit and mixer range on offer.
The mural unfolds across the bar’s interior in a dramatic display of geometric abstraction. Rich tones of deep green, navy, burgundy, and burnt orange evoke warmth and depth, while vivid highlights in gold and yellow offer contrast and vibrancy. The result is a layered, immersive artwork that energises the space without overpowering it.
To further elevate the visual texture, I incorporated copper cutouts; hand-shaped and mounted onto the wall, into the painted composition. These metallic elements echo the materials used in the distilling process, catching and reflecting ambient light to bring dimension and dynamic movement to the mural.
This project blends colour, form, and material to create an atmosphere that celebrates craft, design, and experience. It invites patrons to engage, unwind, and connect with the unique spirit of the 23rd Street brand.
